DFID Consultation 'New Directions for Agriculture in Reducing Poverty

On 30 March 2004, the UK Department for International Development (DFID) are launching a four-week electronic consultation on the role of agriculture in  growth and poverty  reduction.  This will guide new policy approaches that might be adopted by  DFID in order to  help unlock the potential of agriculture.  The e-forum is part of a longer process that will culminate in the  preparation of new DFID  guidelines - to be completed by the end of 2004. The debate and material  will be of potential   interest to other international development partners and national policy  makers.  The  consultation process will be launched with two differing perspectives on  agriculture prepared  by Simon Maxwell, Director of the Overseas Development Institute, and  Michael Lipton, of  the Poverty Reduction Unit, University of Sussex.
